Letter to a friend

24/10/14

Hey dude,

As you know I'm a fan of rugby and I've played it for almost five years. Also, you know that it's not a sport where you can't get injured, so here's the thing, I was playing and on a rug someone hit me on the nose, and it broke. It was not a very good view with all the blood on the ground and in my hands, but I'm okay, it doesn't hurt at all!

Well, this happened during a trip so I didn't go to the hospital immediately, I didn't took too much care of it, I said "when I go back to Viña I will go to the hospital"... Bad idea.

Now I just came back from the doctor and, guess what? I need a surgery, yeah, but like I'm two months, my nose is a bit crooked to the left.

The operation is basically breaking it again and putting all the pieces back in place.

Hope to see you soon!

Opinion Essay

In this essay I will be expressing my opinion and point of view of a very mentioned topic these days, improving our lives and avoiding destroying the environment, is not hard as it sounds. We are on the 21st century and technology has developed enough to know how to reduce, or even to take away, any type of pollution.

Many people say that taking care of the nature and making improvements on new technology is impossible, it is a big falacy, who say we need a lot of energy to produce materials. Well, let me remind you that with an amount of budget not big for goverments you can build wind parks and get the renewable energy of wind power or, if it is an area where there is not much wind, the other option is solar panels, even though this is not the best one, is one of the most efficient, and it can be placed on ceilings, streets, and open areas.

People say "no" to these options having as an argument that it is very expensive and that spending money on this is not worth at all. Scientists are developing new versions of these machines, although they are very expensive nowadays, but it will mean a change that will benefit next generations. Another convenient source of power is geothermal energy, but it can be found in some parts of the world, and Iceland is one of those lucky countries that has this energy, the only bad thing that this can cause is earthquakes caused because of collecting Earth's steam.

Also many people talk about these energies without knowing how they really work. I will present a brief explanation how you can transform a common thing such as wind into electricity or sunlight to turn on your computer.

-Solar Power: solar radiation is collected inside thousands of photovoltaic PV cells that are located on the panel. These cells are made from materials which exhibit the "photovoltaic effect" i.e. "When sunshine hits the PV cell, the photons of light excite the electrons in the cell and cause them to flow, generating electricity" according www.greenoughsolarfarm.com.au

-Wind Power: the wind causes huge amounts of kinetic energy that can be transformed into electrical energy using wind turbines. The wind turns the blades, Which spin a shaft, Which connects to a generator and makes energy. According to www.eschooltoday.com

Finally, I would like to remind you that the only way to change the awful destiny that waits for us in a not far future is in nowhere else but our hands, the change is our responsibility. According to all the facts and scientific backup, also the how this renewable energy saves the life of millions and of the humanity in the future, we can make a change without messing up with nature. Technology is everyday progressing and developing new machines with which we will not repeat the mistakes of the past.
